1980s Travilla Tiered & Beaded Sheath Dress

William Travilla was a favorite designer of Marilyn Monroe. It was he who designed the infamous pleated halter dress that created such havoc in The Seven Year Itch. This little black dress is another glamorous Travilla creation. A classic sheath designed in a fine black crepe charmeuse, the fabric has just a bit of cling and is wonderfully balanced by the straight lines of the cut, which is more than a little reminiscent of the 1920s flapper styles  with a scalloped and tiered hem accented with a subtle yet  intricately dimensional beaded trim.  A simple rounded collar is also accented with beading, and the long slim sleeves have a covered snap closure at the wrist. Has an an invisible zippered closure in back, and an inverted vee vent at the hem. Also bearing a Saks Fifth Avenue label, the dress is fully lined in black silk and in excellent condition.   Sized for a modern 8, the bust measures 38", waist 37", hip 39", shoulder 15", sleeve 25", length 39".  $165
