1940s Black Crepe Sequined Gown

 

 

 

 

With respect to women's fashion, each decade has its own style character.  The '20s reflected the newly found freedom women were experiencing following the constraints of the Edwardian period.  The 1930s were pure fashion fantasy, with women looking to the movie screen for respite from the Crash. In the 1940s, WWII brought brought fashion back to reality, but the styles retained a  beauty and elegance while becoming more practical.  The details of this gown are a stunning example of  the glamour of the 1940s.  Black rayon crepe in a perfectly elegantly styled gown.  Cut somewhat straight, but softy gathered at the shoulder and curved waist to emphasize the breast, waist and hip.  The waist is further accentuated with an attached and gathered self belt that closes at the small of the back with five covered buttons and loops.  The bodice is highlighted by a squared neckline and opposing black sequined swirls at the bust and waist. Long tapered sleeves are slightly set into the shoulder and close at the wrist with two buttons and loops.
