Yeah, we know - it's not vintage, but how can you say no to a
modern gown by the man who dressed Jacqueline Kennedy, Grace Kelly and
Gene Tierney? One of the things we've loved about Cassini's
designs is that he designed classic, almost simple, gowns in the most
sumptuous of fabrics - just take a look at his creations for Jackie when
she was First Lady in his book 'A Thousand Days of Magic'. Cassini
is applying the same same high standards to his modern wedding
gown line that he did when he was designing in the Sixties. Cut
from yards and yards of ivory silk duoppioni, this gown has a smooth, boned
and
fitted bodice with an almost-off-the -shoulder neckline, accented with
faux pearls, a dropped basque waist and short, shirred sleeves. The skirt of the gown
gathers into the waist seam, which is actually at the hip, and spills in folds to the floor.
A chapel length train can be bustled with silk covered buttons and
thread loops along the back waist seam. A layer of tulle beneath the
gown and a stiffened/wired band at the hem add structure and fullness.
Back zipper closure with decorative self covered buttons over the button
placket. Silk flowers attached to a comb and a double layer of
tulle with finished bound edges completes the fairy tale presentation. A
modern size 16, The bust measures 41", waist
31", dropped waist 36" sleeve 8", length shoulder to hem in
front 58", with the train extending another 37". Excellent condition. $425
